I am trying to install the android sdk but i cannot figure out the command to install it, i have looked in synaptic and the file is not there, any help would be great. Thanks|||Installing Software in Ubuntu

LUg.|||a .tgz file is not an installation its a compressed archive like a .zip or .rar file
usually you can unpack most .tar.gz files with
tar zxvf filename.tar.gz
and it'll unpack the contents of it into the current directory. From there you go into the folder to find things like /tools and such.
