Well...I'm not new to programming (I know C and C++), but I'm new to Java...I seem to be having trouble getting everything set up so I can start developing an Android app. I have Eclipse and the Android SDK, but I don't know how to use them together and the internet seems to be of no help.
The Android SDK tools installer can't find the JDK for some reason, either.|||With the SDK installer, when it says it can't find the jdk, click back, then next again. Should work now. As for developing apps, you don't really need to kno java. Depends on the engine you are working with. Some engines allow you to program in C++. Some allow you to create in HTML 5. I don't really like eclipse, so I am learning C++ so I can try to make apps as well.|||If I remember correctly there is a certain version of the Java runtime that you must have. It is not the basic Java runtime.
Also, search youtube, there are a lot of videos that will demonstrate exactly how to install the SDK and get started.

Starting development for Android?
I just installed the Android SDK with Eclipse Galileo, and have saw the 'Simple Flashlight' program. Needless to say, I have a few questions...First, where can I download the Android API Documentation? And, is the documentation added into my Java API Documentation that I downloaded?
Second, are there any books out there for Android? Some intense tutorials? i learned Java from the Deitel and Deitel books, and was wondering if there was a great book like those? Or is there even THAT much involved? I know this may sound stupid, but I just want to make sure, you know? Thank you!|||You can access the API online at developer.android.com. When you code in Eclipse, it will give you suggestions, meaning that Eclipse has the API, but I haven't actually bothered looking for it because its much faster online (Eclipse is really slow for me). A good book for Android would be Android Wireless Application Development, but you can learn everything you need to know at developer.android.com. It has great articles and tutorials that you can use. Check under the resources section. Also, the SDK comes with multiple examples so you should check those out too.

Why doesn't Google Android ever start up on my emulator?
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz computer with 4 gigabytes of RAM and Windows Vista, and I'm running Eclipse 3.6, ADT, and the Android SDK in an attempt to develop some sort of Google Android app.
I type in the Hello, Android program and try to run it. Then this is what happens:
- The emulated phone displays "ANDROID" for a few seconds.
- Then it gets to the metallic-looking Android logo.
- It never gets past the metallic-looking Android logo, even if I leave the emulator on for hours.
What's going on? I can't write any apps if it won't even boot into Android...
What's the problem?|||I don't know the answer; but, I had the same problem with a Nokia SDK. I would reboot the computer and start the SDK emulator first before deploying a program - then it would work thereafter.|||The emulator some times not working properly.
create another emulated phone. and give all specifications to that phone and try.

Can i develop android apps effectively even though i have an iphone and develop iOS apps using objective-C ?
i know objective C and i develop iphone apps which i test on my iphone for any bugs as such.
i know java as well so i can very much develop android apps BUT
i don't have an android and i dont want to borrow an android everytime i want to test an app that i develop.
so does the android SDK help me in that regard to test the app exactly like it appears on an android?
if it does not,is there any other way i can run the app exactly like it runs on an android without having an android?
thanks =)|||The Android SDK includes a device emulator called Android Virtual Device (AVD) which lets you manage virtual devices (note the plural - welcome to the Android quagmire!). You could take a look at Corona which may be of use depending on the type of app you develop.|||You should be able to search around on the Internet for an Android Emulator and you can select that to be what your program opens up with.

Installing non market apps to android backflip 1.5?
Okay, I know a little bit about installing non market apps to my android backflip. I downloaded the android sdk r12, I unzip it, move all the different files and stuff. And finally when I go cmd.exe to install an app it says, install_failed_older_sdk. So looked around the internet for more info, then I figured out that I need an r3 sdk. So I download, unzip it did the same stuff and tried to install and I get the same message, install_failed_older_sdk. What's up with that? Am I doing something wrong? How can I fix this?|||Hi,
Why don't you try installing AndExplorer from the Android Market.
Then plug your phone to the computer and activate USB Mode.
After that drag the Apk(non market app) file from your computer to the root of your folder of your phone SD.
Now the file is on your phone unplug the USB.
Open up AndExplorer and go to the root of your SD.
Open %26amp; Install.
So simple.
Also Make sure your settings for allow installing from unknown market apps is checked (Settings -%26gt; Manage Application).
Hope that helped if not.

Thanks
